AHS creator Ryan Murphy announced that American Horror Stories was in development back in May via Instagram. Besides Paulson’s announcement not much is known about the new series except that it’ll be made up of hour long ghost stories, Paulson also said she’s unsure whether she’ll be cast in the new series.

This isn’t the first time Paulson has sat in the director’s chair, having previously directed AHS season 8’s Return to Murder House episode. A key cast member since the beginning of the series, Paulson has appeared in every season except the 9th, though she’s expected to return for the stalled 10th season.
When asked about AHS’s 10th season production status, Paulson replied, “I don’t know more than you all do, California is not having its finest moment right now dealing with this pandemic. We were less than two weeks from starting Impeachment before everything shut down. Right now, it’s lots of rumors of going back in October or maybe 2021.” Meanwhile Ryan Murphy is apparently also working on a revival of his camp horror comedy series Scream Queens. Originally cancelled after two seasons in 2018, Scream Queens gained a cult following calling for it to come back. Murphy seemingly confirmed the news of a third season in a response to an instagram comment.
The self-contained anthology series is enjoying a welcome resurgence thanks to the likes of Black Mirror, Tales from the Loop and Jordan Peele’s revival of the classic Twilight Zone. American Horror Stories is a welcome addition veering away from cautionary sci-fi stories and hopefully can stand alongside the likes of Tales from the Crypt with campy fun scares.
No firm details on when American Horror Stories is due to air but American Horror Story Season 10 is expected in 2021.
