Sonic, arguably the world’s favorite hedgehog, has made quite the resurgence in the past few years. Rising to fame in 1991 with the release of his first game, Sonic soon became the face of Sega. For over a decade, Sonic and Sega went hand-to-hand with Mario and Nintendo for control of the video game market. Unfortunately for Sonic, things started to turn in the mid-2000s after the release of some lower quality titles. After years of uncertainty at Sega and several attempts to create a movie, a full-length feature film starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz came out in 2020. Despite being released right before movie theaters closed for the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was one of the highest grossing films of that year and created a whole new generation of young Sonic fans.
Building off the success of the film, Sega has put a refocus on Sonic games and released the highly anticipated Sonic Frontiers on November 8th, 2022. A 3D platformer and action-adventure game, Frontiers has received favorable reviews and has already sold a ton of copies. The release came just in time for the holiday season and allowed for the rare discount on a new game. The game quickly sold out at many retailers but is back in stock just in time for some last-minute holiday shopping.
